Child Protection Officer Seriously Assaulted

On February 12, a child protection officer was allegedly unlawfully assaulted at the Labrador office of the Department of Child Safety.

The incident is said to have occurred at approximately 9:30am when the accused was attending the office for family contact.

It is alleged that the accused was agitated at the contact. Sources claim this was due to the worker allegedly having told the mother that this was the last time that she would see her children.

The accused allegedly then lunged at the worker, placing her hands around her neck, forcing the worker to the ground where she continued to hold her around the neck and punched the worker in the face and head.

Injuries sustained by the worker are alleged to have included redness and soreness to the left side of her neck and abrasion and swelling to the upper right lip.

The accused has been charged with serious assault public officer performing function causing bodily injury.

The mother at the centre of this incident has been granted bail and is to appear in court on March 23.

Queensland police media have been uncontactable for further information.
